The sister of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid was shot and killed at a New Jersey apartment complex over the weekend, and her boyfriend has been charged with murder, authorities said Monday.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 11 a.m. Saturday at the Paragon complex in Jackson, where they discovered 28-year-old Toraya Reid unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said officers soon spotted Shaquille Green, 29, running nearby and took him into custody without incident.
Green, who prosecutors said had been in a dating relationship with Reid, has been charged with murder along with two counts of weapons offenses. He remains in custody, and it was not immediately clear whether he has obtained legal representation.
Naz Reid, 25, is a New Jersey native who rose to prominence as a high school basketball star before joining the Timberwolves, where he has become a key contributor. Fresh off being named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2023–24 season, Reid recently secured a five-year contract extension with Minnesota.
The Timberwolves and Reid’s representatives have not publicly commented on the tragedy. Jackson, where the shooting occurred, is located about 31 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
