Texans eager for products made in America may soon find their next Kindle e-reader produced in the Lone Star State.

Inventec, a Taiwanese company known for manufacturing gaming laptops and Amazon’s Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers, is set to start constructing a new facility in Katy, as reported by the Houston Business Journal.

The project’s budget includes $55 million in improvements, with an initial phase costing $5 million, based on a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Although the facility’s production specifics are undisclosed, Newmark, the site owner, indicated to the Journal that the initiative could create over 500 jobs.

This effort is part of an $85 million investment in the U.S., likely helping the company avoid 32 percent tariffs on Taiwanese imports proposed by President Donald Trump.

The completion of site preparations is anticipated by October. This development contributes to a surge in tech employment across Texas.

According to CompTIA’s State of the Tech Workforce 2025 report, the Houston area is projected to experience a 2.1 percent rise in tech employment this year, as Texas leads in adding tech jobs nationwide.
