Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to the United Kingdom after Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president in November 2024.
They had initially bought a home in the Cotswolds to use part-time but decided to make the move permanent following the election results.
DeGeneres described life in the UK as “simpler and better,” praising the country’s charm, cleanliness, and polite culture. She expressed concerns about America feeling “scary” for people to be themselves, particularly highlighting issues faced by LGBTQ+ individuals amid recent political changes.
DeGeneres also sought a fresh start away from public scrutiny after facing criticism over her talk show’s workplace environment.
Currently, Ellen is enjoying a quieter life in rural England, embracing activities like gardening and spending time with her chickens, while not ruling out a possible return to television in the future.
