A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the port city of Esmeraldas in Ecuador on Friday, injuring more than 30 people and damaging over 800 buildings.
The earthquake caused widespread power outages in the area.
Ecuador’s emergency response services reported 32 individuals injured due to the seismic event.
The tremor destroyed 179 homes and damaged 716 other structures in the region.
Residents felt the quake as far away as the nation’s capital, Quito.
Fisherman Andres Mafare, 36, recounted hearing a loud crack followed by the tremor as he was walking to the port, which shook overhead cables.
Emergency response teams assessed damage and provided assistance to those affected by the earthquake.
Authorities worked to restore electricity and evaluate infrastructure stability in the affected areas.
