San Antonio city officials on Thursday will consider how to approve $3 million in federal funding that supports the Texas Anti-Gang Program in the city.

The funding comes from a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant program that Governor Greg Abbott’s office uses to support anti-gang initiatives across Texas. The proposal lists the Texas Anti-Gang Center in San Antonio as the primary local recipient.

City staff placed the item on the council agenda for a public vote after receiving notification of the grant award. According to the agenda document, the funding will help continue operations for the existing Texas Anti-Gang Program in the San Antonio area.

The program focuses on multi-agency efforts to investigate and disrupt organized criminal street gangs. The funding request follows earlier state-level decisions from Abbott’s office to direct DHS grant dollars toward regional anti-gang centers. San Antonio’s facility operates as part of a statewide network that includes similar centers in other major Texas cities.

Under the proposal, the grant will flow through the Governor’s Public Safety Office before reaching participating local and regional agencies. The city will serve as a pass-through entity and coordinate with partner law enforcement groups.
