SUGAR LAND, Texas — Bun B celebrated the 30th anniversary of UGK’s “Ridin’ Dirty” on Saturday with a full-album performance at Smart Financial Centre, joined by a lineup of artists who helped honor the Houston rap duo’s legacy.

The Port Arthur native performed the 1996 album from beginning to end, bringing several guest artists onto the stage throughout the concert.

Lil Keke, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Killa Kyleon, the Botany Boyz, 8Ball and MJG, Big K.R.I.T., Chamillionaire, Quiet Money Dot, Trilly Polk and David Banner were among the performers who joined Bun B during the show.

“How we doing so far, H-Town? Y’all like this shit? It’s going down tonight, don’t you agree?” Bun B told the crowd before launching into the performance.

The concert marked another large-scale production for Bun B, who has developed a reputation for assembling Houston and Southern hip-hop artists for major performances.

He first launched the H-Town Takeover at RodeoHouston in March 2022. The production later expanded into the Southern Takeover, All-American Takeover and Birthday Bonanza.

The anniversary show focused on “Ridin’ Dirty,” the influential album released by Bun B and Pimp C as UGK in 1996.

The album emerged during a period when New York and Los Angeles dominated much of the national hip-hop scene. UGK instead centered its music on its Southern identity, combining Bun B’s lyrics with Pimp C’s production and incorporating elements of soul, country and live instrumentation.

“Ridin’ Dirty” eventually became one of UGK’s most recognized albums and influenced artists across the South and beyond. Songs including “One Day,” “Diamonds & Wood” and “Ridin’ Dirty” remain among the duo’s best-known recordings.

Pimp C died in 2007, making the anniversary performance a challenge for Bun B as he performed music originally recorded with his longtime partner.

Rather than attempt to replicate Pimp C’s role, Bun B brought different artists onto the stage for individual songs.

David Banner performed “Pinky Ring,” while Killa Kyleon joined Bun B for “Murder.” Big K.R.I.T. performed “Good Stuff,” and Chamillionaire joined Bun B for the title track.

The guest appearances also reflected the influence UGK has had across different generations of Southern hip-hop.

“I’m getting a chance to return to music we wrote 30 years ago,” Bun B said backstage before the concert. “I’ll just be happy when I get to ‘Ridin’ Dirty’ because it’s the last song, and I know we would have put on a good show.”

The Sugar Land concert continues Bun B’s series of large-scale performances that bring together artists from Houston, Texas and the broader Southern hip-hop community.
