KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Tuesday that he plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ankara, Turkey, on Thursday for direct talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between their countries, which has stretched beyond three years.
Zelensky confirmed his intention to attend the meeting amid mounting international pressure for a peaceful resolution. The proposed talks follow increased calls from U.S. and European leaders to de-escalate tensions and bring an end to the prolonged hostilities.
While Zelensky has committed to participating in the Ankara meeting, the Kremlin has not yet confirmed whether President Putin will attend.
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly encouraged both leaders to take part in the discussions, framing the talks as part of Washington’s broader initiative to support peace in the region.
