MANILA, Philippines– Former congressman Zaldy Co will not return to the Philippines to face complaints filed against him with the Office of the Ombudsman regarding alleged anomalies in flood control projects, his lawyer announced on Tuesday.

The lawyer stated that Co fears for his life and believes his case has been prejudged. Co resigned from his position and has opted not to contest the complaints while staying outside the country.

The complaints relate to supposed irregularities in flood control projects that have drawn public scrutiny.

Co’s lawyer emphasized that his client feels his safety is compromised upon returning to the Philippines. The allegations have yet to be formally addressed by Co due to his decision to remain abroad.
