MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed concerns over the appointment of Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Speaking in Manila, Duterte described the appointment as “too sketchy,” citing the findings from the Senate’s investigation into the arrest of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The investigation reportedly contributed to efforts to bring the former president before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Maj. Gen. Torre, who previously led the police operation that resulted in the arrest of former President Duterte, has been at the center of controversy.

The Senate investigation into the arrest has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the operation, fueling Vice President Duterte’s concerns about Torre’s appointment to the top police post.
