MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte must clarify a P50 million discrepancy in her 2024 statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) during the ongoing impeachment proceedings, Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Saturday.

Ridon noted that Duterte’s cumulative earnings from 2007 to 2024—as a local official in Davao City and as Vice President—should total around P30 million to P40 million. However, her 2024 SALN reported a net worth of P88.5 million, leaving an unexplained gap of roughly P50 million.

The lawmaker, a member of the House committee on justice, said Duterte will need to account for the discrepancy, including income from her husband Manases Carpio’s law practice and their listed business interests. Reports show Carpio became an incorporator or shareholder in multiple companies between 2023 and 2024.

Ridon rejected claims that the House’s request for additional documents constitutes a “fishing expedition,” explaining that subpoenas are a standard part of the impeachment process. The committee already has reports from the Commission on Audit regarding Duterte’s use of confidential funds, copies of her SALNs, and an affidavit from her alleged former “bagman,” Ramil Madriaga.

The documents sought include bank accounts and Anti-Money Laundering Council reports, which are accessible only within the context of ongoing impeachment proceedings due to the Bank Secrecy Law, Ridon explained.
