Vice-president of Philippines Sara Duterte addresses people gathering outside the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, on March 14, 2025, as former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte appears for the first time before International Criminal Court to face crimes against humanity charges. The 79-year-old faces a charge of "the crime against humanity of murder", according to the ICC, for a crackdown that rights groups estimate killed tens of thousands of mostly poor men, often without proof they were linked to drugs. MANILA, Philippines– Vice President Sara Duterte arrived in The Hague, Netherlands, on Saturday to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained by the International Criminal Court (ICC) due to charges of crimes against humanity.

The ICC detained Rodrigo Duterte following accusations related to his war on drugs during his presidency, which led to numerous deaths and alleged human rights violations.

Vice President Duterte, in a statement, confirmed her visit to her father and mentioned that she plans to remain in The Hague until July.

Authorities at the ICC have yet to announce any ruling regarding the status or possible release of Rodrigo Duterte.

The former president’s arrest and transfer to the ICC are considered significant steps in addressing the allegations against him.

The ICC continues to review the charges against Rodrigo Duterte, with no current developments regarding a resolution or release.

During her visit, Sara Duterte attended a photo exhibit dedicated to her father, showcasing his political career and achievements.
