Voters in San Antonio have approved a $1.3 billion measure to fund the construction of a new downtown arena for the Spurs.

The county-level ballot initiative received 52.14 percent support, authorizing plans to replace the existing AT&T Center, which has served as the team’s home since 2002.

Bexar County officials, including Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and County Judge Peter Sakai, said the decision reflects community support for strengthening the city’s sports and entertainment infrastructure. They emphasized collaboration as planning for the project begins.

The new arena will serve as a multi-purpose venue designed to host basketball games, concerts, conventions, and other large events. City planners expect its downtown location to generate additional economic activity for nearby businesses and contribute to tourism growth.

Although voters have approved the funding, officials have not yet set a timeline for construction or completion. They said project planning will focus on aligning design and operations with community priorities.

The Spurs and city leaders plan to hold public meetings to keep residents informed and involved throughout the development process.
