UVALDE, Texas — The Uvalde City Council on Tuesday, April 23, unanimously approved a settlement with the families of the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting, nearly three years after the incident.

The approval followed a closed-door session that lasted one hour. Officials have not disclosed the terms of the agreement.

The settlement comes in response to multiple lawsuits filed against the city regarding the law enforcement response to the shooting on May 24, 2022, which claimed the lives of 19 fourth-grade students and two teachers. Families of the victims had sought accountability and compensation in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Mayor Hector Luevano announced the council’s decision during a public meeting. He stated that the city will work with the victims’ families to establish a permanent memorial at a future date.

Attorney Josh Koskoff, who represents several of the families, confirmed the settlement and noted that it is part of their ongoing pursuit of healing.

The city has not released specific details about the financial or legal terms of the settlement. Officials said discussions with families would continue in the coming months regarding memorial plans.
