AUSTIN, Texas– The University of Texas at Austin has announced a $100 million investment to establish its new School of Civic Leadership, aimed at promoting civic engagement and leadership among students.

The funding will support academic programs, faculty recruitment, and infrastructure development for the school, set to launch in fall 2024.

The School of Civic Leadership will offer interdisciplinary studies and collaborate with various departments at UT Austin.

It will focus on equipping students with the skills needed to participate effectively in civic life, with programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in civic studies and governance.

UT Austin President Jay Hartzell emphasized the importance of civic education in preparing students for leadership roles.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been appointed as an advisor to the school. UT Austin aims for the school to enhance educational opportunities, foster community engagement, and address global challenges through civic education.

The new school will be located in a state-of-the-art facility on the university’s main campus in Austin, Texas.

UT Austin anticipates that the initiative will attract students and scholars interested in public service and governance, further solidifying the university’s role in shaping future leaders.
