MANILA, Philippines– The University of the Philippines College of Law released a statement on Friday expressing concern over the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

According to the statement, the ruling may weaken the impeachment process, which the College described as a constitutional mechanism for ensuring accountability among public officials.

Faculty members said the decision has created confusion and concern among the public, and could have implications for the constitutional framework.

The College emphasized the need to maintain the integrity of the impeachment process and warned that undermining it could affect public trust in political institutions.

The Supreme Court ruling has generated varied responses from lawmakers and the public. Some senators have indicated they will follow the decision, while discussions continue on its broader legal and political impact.

The UP College of Law urged continued vigilance in protecting accountability measures and called for close examination of the ruling’s implications for democratic processes and the balance of power between government branches.
