AUSTIN, Texas– A University of Texas football player was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) on West Sixth Street in Austin, Texas, according to authorities.

The player, identified as Nick Brooks, was detained after a traffic stop initiated by police, though the specific driving behavior that led to the stop has not been disclosed.

During the arrest, officers discovered a gold vape pen with a marijuana leaf inscription in Brooks’ possession, prompting further investigation into the contents of the vape.

Brooks informed the arresting officer that he had been at a club on West Sixth Street, which he claimed allowed exceptions for University of Texas football players despite its 21 and up age restriction.

Following field sobriety tests, Brooks was taken into custody. Results of the tests have not been publicly released. Brooks was later released on bond, but the details surrounding his bond and conditions of his release have not been disclosed.

Brooks, a freshman offensive lineman, joined the Texas Longhorns as part of their football recruiting class. The university has not yet commented on the incident, and it is unclear whether disciplinary actions will be taken.

Authorities continue to investigate the situation, and further details may emerge as the case progresses. It is also unclear if the vape pen contained substances that could lead to additional charges. Brooks’ attorney has yet to make a public statement.
