Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday in Kyiv that he will meet United States President Donald Trump in the near future to discuss efforts to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022 and continues to affect large parts of the country.
Zelensky told reporters that he and Trump agreed to hold a meeting at the highest level and that he expects the talks to take place soon, although he did not specify the exact date, location or format of the planned encounter.
He said the two sides reached the understanding on the meeting during recent contacts between their teams, and he indicated that Ukrainian and American representatives continue to coordinate details of the agenda.
Zelensky stated that he believes Ukrainian and U.S. officials can decide many important issues related to the war before the New Year, including questions connected with security, diplomacy and international support.
He said he views the upcoming meeting with Trump as part of a broader diplomatic effort that Ukraine pursues with international partners to secure an end to the Russian invasion and to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Zelensky did not announce whether other U.S. political figures or officials will join the discussions, and he did not confirm if any representatives of other countries or international organizations will participate.
He said Ukrainian authorities aim to use all available diplomatic channels to advance peace proposals, and he noted that Kyiv continues to engage with multiple foreign leaders and institutions on possible paths toward a just and lasting settlement.
Officials in Kyiv said they will announce additional information when they finalize the schedule and logistics and when they receive clearance from all parties involved in the discussions.
