The UAAP has suspended University of the East head coach Chris Gavina for four games after he directed expletives at game officials following the Red Warriors’ 111–110 loss to La Salle in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Gavina’s outburst came after UE guard Wello Lingolingo was ejected in the fourth quarter of the close match.

In a statement, the UAAP Board of Managing Directors said Gavina’s conduct did not meet the standards expected of a coach and stressed the league’s policy of maintaining respect for officials.

The suspension takes effect immediately and will sideline Gavina for UE’s next four games. The UAAP did not indicate whether further sanctions are being considered.

Gavina has not issued a public comment. UE has not released a formal statement, and the team has not announced who will take over coaching duties during his absence.
