PUERTO RICO — The U.S. military has resumed operations at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico, officials announced, as part of an expansion of its presence in the Caribbean.
The base, located north of Venezuela, is now one of five sites where U.S. forces operate on the island. The military cited the location’s strategic importance for regional security, rapid deployment, and support for operations across the Caribbean.
The reopening aims to enhance readiness for humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and defense operations, officials said. The expansion includes additional personnel and resources to strengthen operational capabilities.
Naval Station Roosevelt Roads supports broader U.S. defense strategies focused on maintaining stability in the Caribbean, where key maritime routes and geopolitical concerns exist. Military officials also emphasized coordination with regional allies to address shared security challenges.
