The United States government has removed a Brazilian Supreme Court judge from its sanctions list, officials announced, ending restrictions that had limited the judge’s interactions with U.S. financial institutions and certain diplomatic channels.
The U.S. Department of State and the Department of the Treasury reviewed the judge’s case, considering the original grounds for sanctions and current conditions in Brazil, before approving the delisting.
The Brazilian government received formal notice through diplomatic channels, and officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with U.S. counterparts to address implications for bilateral cooperation.
Removal from the sanctions list allows U.S.-linked banks and financial institutions to process transactions involving the judge, reversing previous asset blocks and prohibitions. Compliance teams at banks and investment firms have updated internal systems to reflect the judge’s new status.
