WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Donald Trump paid tribute to Pope Francis following the pontiff’s death earlier this week at the age of 88 from a stroke.
Trump, acknowledging past policy differences, described the Pope as a “good man” who “loved the world,” and ordered flags flown at half-staff in his honor.
Pope Francis’s funeral was held at St. Peter’s Basilica and drew approximately 250,000 mourners, including world leaders and citizens.
Trump, joined by former First Lady Melania Trump, attended the ceremony, highlighting the late Pope’s global influence and dedication to faith.
Prior to the funeral, Trump held a meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The two leaders discussed the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, with reports indicating sharp disagreements on ceasefire proposals and the role of Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in future negotiations.
