WASHINGTON — Donald Trump confirmed Friday that he will miss the wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr., citing ongoing government responsibilities in Washington.
Trump said he would not attend Trump Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas this weekend because of what he described as an important period for the United States government.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The president added that he believed it was important to remain at the White House in Washington, D.C., before congratulating the couple.
The White House later confirmed changes to Trump’s weekend schedule, announcing he would stay in the nation’s capital instead of traveling to his golf resort in New Jersey.
Trump did not specify the exact reason for remaining in Washington, though the decision comes amid escalating geopolitical tensions tied to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Reports said Iran is reviewing a new proposal from the United States, while Pakistan’s army chief is expected to travel to Tehran as part of mediation efforts.
At the same time, tensions between the United States and Cuba have also intensified following new US legal actions against former Cuban president Raul Castro.
The US military has additionally deployed an aircraft carrier and accompanying warships to the Caribbean region.
