WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal appeals court ruled that President Donald Trump must turn over his tax returns to state investigators, rejecting his legal team’s efforts to withhold the documents.
Trump’s legal team argued that the request was politically motivated and that, as a sitting president, he should be exempt from such disclosures. Lower courts previously rejected those arguments. The recent appeals court ruling upheld those earlier decisions.
The three-judge panel concluded that the President is not immune from legal processes related to state investigations. The ruling affirms that public office does not place an individual beyond the reach of lawful inquiry.
Trump’s legal representatives have not announced whether they will appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. If pursued, such a move could extend the legal proceedings further.
