The U.S. Senate confirmed Charles Kushner as the next U.S. ambassador to France on Monday with a 51 to 45 vote.
Kushner, a real estate executive and former attorney, previously served time in federal prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion and other crimes in 2004.
He was pardoned by former President Donald Trump in 2020 near the end of Trump’s first term.
Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, who is married to Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump. Jared Kushner served as a senior advisor to Trump, focusing on Middle East conflict resolution during his first term.
