US President Donald Trump on Sunday in Washington, D.C., said he would involve himself in the federal review of Netflix’s proposed acquisition of Hollywood studio Warner Bros., stating that the streaming company already holds a “very large market share” and that the deal “could be a problem,” as he spoke to reporters upon his arrival at the Kennedy Center Honors awards ceremony.
Trump told reporters that he viewed the potential acquisition as a matter for government scrutiny and that he planned to participate in the decision-making process regarding whether authorities would allow Netflix to complete the deal.
The president said he considered the size of Netflix’s existing presence in the streaming market as a key factor in his concerns about the proposed transaction.
Trump spoke about the matter as he walked into the Kennedy Center in Washington, where he attended the annual ceremony honoring performing artists.
