A trial date has been officially scheduled in a Dallas courtroom for Karmelo Anthony, who is charged with the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco on May 2.

The prosecution alleges Anthony stabbed Metcalf during an altercation at the Frisco Independent School District track event, presenting witness statements and physical evidence to establish his responsibility.

Anthony’s legal team plans to argue the stabbing was an act of self-defense, disputing the prosecution’s account and presenting alternative evidence gathered from their investigation.

Both the Metcalf and Anthony families are expected to be present throughout the proceedings, which will take place over several weeks. Court officials have arranged enhanced security measures in anticipation of heightened emotions in the courtroom.

Jury selection is scheduled for July 25, with court observers and journalists preparing for extensive coverage of the proceedings. Observers highlight the case’s significance in underscoring due-process principles and community interest in the outcome.

The judge overseeing the trial will be responsible for presenting all evidence, guiding the jury, and ensuring legal protocols are followed. The verdict will determine the legal responsibility for Metcalf’s death and shape next steps for all parties involved.
