AUSTIN, Texas — Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza addressed criticism of his prosecutorial approach in an interview with FOX 7 Austin, defending his record amid claims of leniency and concerns about public safety.

The interview, conducted by reporter Angela Shen, took place in Austin and centered on accusations that Garza has been “soft on crime” and has operated as a “rogue DA.” Garza rejected those labels, stating that his policies are rooted in the pursuit of justice and fairness.

Garza acknowledged public concerns regarding crime in the county but emphasized that his office prioritizes both accountability and reform. He argued that his prosecutorial strategies aim to ensure safety while addressing systemic issues within the criminal justice system.

During the interview, Garza outlined his office’s priorities and defended past decisions, asserting that his administration remains committed to justice and community safety.

He also sought to clarify misconceptions about his policies, stressing the importance of data-driven approaches to prosecution.
