SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University terminated the employment of Dr. Tom Alter for the second time, according to a letter from University President Kelly Damphousse stating that his last day will be October 13.

The university cited undisclosed reasons for the decision. Dr. Alter, previously reinstated after an earlier termination, plans to contest the latest action.

A university representative confirmed that administrators followed internal procedures. Dr. Alter’s attorney announced plans to pursue legal action and scheduled a press conference to discuss next steps.

Dr. Alter first lost his position last year, then regained it after a legal challenge that resulted in a settlement earlier this year.

The Texas State University Board of Regents continues to monitor developments, while faculty and students have voiced concerns about transparency and job security.

Further updates are expected following the press conference.
