The Texas Secretary of State’s Office has opened an investigation to review more than 2,000 registered voters flagged as possible non-citizens.
The office said the names were identified through routine data checks and has instructed local election officials to verify the records. Notices have been sent to the individuals asking them to confirm their citizenship status.
Officials did not release the criteria used to flag the records but stated that safeguards are in place to protect eligible voters while the review is underway.
The Secretary of State’s Office is working with local authorities and will update the public as the verification process moves forward.
