HOUSTON, Texas — Delegates at the Republican Party of Texas convention elected D’Rinda Randall as the party’s new chair, replacing Abraham George, during voting held Friday at the party’s statewide convention.
Randall previously served as vice chair under George and will now lead the state Republican Party.
Delegates also elected David Covey as vice chair. Under party rules, the chair and vice chair must be of opposite genders.
Following the vote, George congratulated Randall and Covey and called for unity within the party.
In a statement, George urged Republicans to support party nominees in upcoming elections, advance legislative priorities, and continue promoting the principles outlined in the party platform.
Amanda Hopper, who ran alongside George, issued a concession statement on Friday.
Hopper said she and George remained committed to the Republican Party of Texas and its political goals.
The leadership election took place during the Republican Party of Texas convention in Houston, which continues through Sunday.
Several prominent Texas Republican officials are expected to attend the convention, where delegates are also considering legislative priorities and party business ahead of future elections.
