Texas police K-9 dies after heat-related incident; officer fired

FAIRFIELD, Texas — The Fairfield Police Department announced Friday that K9 Officer Farock died in a heat-related incident in Ennis, Texas, on June 12.

The department identified Farock as a German shepherd that served with the Fairfield Police Department.

The Ennis Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding Farock’s death with the cooperation of the Fairfield Police Department.

The Fairfield Police Department said it completed an internal investigation and released the officer involved from the department on June 18.

In a statement, the department honored Farock’s service and pledged accountability in responding to the incident.

“K9 Officer Farock served this community bravely and faithfully and we owe it to the community and to his memory that we respond with full accountability and transparency,” the department said.
