AUSTIN, Texas — U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican representing Texas’ 21st Congressional District, is facing backlash after a social media post Sunday calling for “No more Muslims,” along with “No more criminals. No more marxists. No more corporatists. #SaveTexas.”
Critics on X accused Roy of Islamophobia and argued the post violates the First Amendment guarantees of freedom of religion. One user wrote that Roy’s statement amounted to “shameful bigotry,” while another said he is “a traitor to the U.S. Constitution and to the American people.”
Roy’s Washington, D.C., office did not respond to requests for comment.
Roy has previously promoted hard-line immigration policies. In early March, he called to halt all U.S. immigration, citing concerns about “Muslim immigrant violence” and a “mass migration of Islamists.” He also helped establish the Sharia-Free America Caucus, which critics describe as anti-Muslim.
The post comes amid heightened tensions following a deadly mass shooting in downtown Austin, still under investigation, and ongoing U.S.-Israeli military activity in Iran. Observers note that anti-Muslim rhetoric by Texas lawmakers has increased in recent months.
On his official campaign site, Roy emphasizes that the federal government must “uphold the rule of law and defend the safety of the American people,” reflecting his long-standing focus on strict interpretations of legal authority.
