Texas court keeps Klein ISD in Title IX lawsuit

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A Harris County judge denied Klein Independent School District’s request to dismiss a federal Title IX lawsuit involving former Klein Cain High School cosmetology teacher Kedria Grigsby, 42, who faces criminal charges related to allegedly compelling and trafficking a minor.

The court’s ruling allows the civil lawsuit, which alleges the district failed to respond adequately to reports of misconduct, to move forward. Klein ISD argued the plaintiffs did not meet the legal standard for liability under Title IX.

The plaintiffs will continue discovery, including document exchanges and depositions, while the civil case proceeds. The criminal case against Grigsby, involving multiple counts of child trafficking and compelling prostitution of a minor, continues separately in state court. Grigsby remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
