Texas education authorities are investigating more than 350 complaints against teachers for social media posts about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Some educators allegedly mocked or celebrated Kirk’s assassination online.

The agency’s investigation has already led to disciplinary actions including firings, suspensions, and resignations in districts such as Houston, Dallas, and Jourdanton.

State Representative Mayes Middleton has called for the dismissal of teachers whose posts about Kirk’s death he deems inappropriate.

The complaints do not necessarily represent distinct individuals, as the agency noted overlaps in the reports.

A geography and social studies teacher, Matthew Justin Holland, was terminated by Jourdanton Independent School District for a post related to Kirk’s death.

Commissioner Mike Morath said he would refer substantiated cases to the State Board for Educator Certification for possible suspension or revocation of teaching credentials.

The Texas Education Agency continues to review each complaint and determine appropriate responses.
