SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Average gasoline prices in Texas declined for a second consecutive week, with drivers paying an average of $3.72 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel as the summer travel season begins, according to AAA Texas.
AAA Texas reported that the statewide average fell by 20 cents from the previous week. However, prices remain nearly $1 per gallon higher than they were during the same period last year.
Among the state’s major metropolitan areas, drivers in El Paso paid the highest average price at $4.05 per gallon, while motorists in McAllen paid the lowest average price at $3.44 per gallon.
The Texas average remained below the national average of $4.24 per gallon.
According to AAA Texas, Texas is among 17 states where average gasoline prices are below $4 per gallon.
AAA Texas spokesperson Doug Shupe said fluctuating fuel prices can make it difficult for travelers to identify the lowest prices while on the road. He encouraged motorists to use mobile applications and online tools to compare fuel prices before purchasing gasoline.
AAA Texas said lower oil prices have contributed to the recent decline in fuel costs, with crude oil trading below $100 per barrel. However, the organization noted that developments in the Middle East could continue to affect fuel markets and contribute to price volatility in the coming weeks.
The decline in gas prices comes as Texans begin traveling for summer vacations and seasonal road trips.
