Texas-Based Company Helps Slash Prescription Drug Costs

With healthcare costs continuing to rise, finding ways to save on essential medications is more important than ever.

A new Texas-based company is providing substantial discounts on well-known prescription drugs. KPRC 2’s Bill Spencer explores the significant savings available through this innovative service.

In Kingwood, Wayne Taylor assists his 13-year-old grandson, Jonathan, with math homework. However, Jonathan’s greatest challenge isn’t academics—it’s managing epilepsy. Without his daily medication, severe seizures are a constant threat.

“Last summer, he stopped taking his medication without us knowing, and he had 10 seizures,” Taylor shared. To safeguard his grandson, Taylor ensures Jonathan takes oxcarbazepine, a prescription drug that, even with insurance, costs the family about $230 a month. Then, Wayne discovered ScriptCo Pharmacy, a Texas company revolutionizing prescription drug sales.

ScriptCo, headquartered in Waco and founded by Texans Zack Zeller and Mark McCormick, is a discount pharmacy membership club that addresses the issue of fluctuating drug prices.

“There’s a huge discrepancy in what people pay. Ten different people could pay ten different prices for the same medication,” Zeller said.

ScriptCo operates as a members-only online pharmacy, selling generic drugs at wholesale cost—what they pay, you pay. They don’t take insurance and make no money from the medications themselves, only from the membership fees.

“The premise is simple,” said Zeller. “Become a member at ScriptCo and buy all your medications at actual wholesale cost.”

Membership costs $140 a year or $50 for three months. You can use their price quote tool for free by visiting www.scriptco.com. For example, a 90-day supply of 300 mg Wellbutrin, an antidepressant, shows a wholesale cost of $11.70.

Karen Francis, a business analyst from Coldspring, reduced her monthly prescription costs from $123 to $1.20. After joining ScriptCo, Wayne Taylor’s costs dropped from $230 a month to just $27, saving him over $2,000 a year, even after the membership fee.

“It’s the same drug from the same manufacturer,” Taylor said. “And my grandson is doing just as well on this medication.”
