TACLOBAN CITY — The Tacloban City government has posthumously named 15-year-old student and scout Chris Lorenz Fabian as the city’s “Young Hero” for protecting classmates during a shooting at San Jose National High School on June 22.

The city conferred the recognition through City Ordinance No. 2026-16-15, citing Fabian’s “extraordinary selfless courage and supreme sacrifice” during the attack.

Fabian’s mother, Erbea Fabian, accepted the recognition on behalf of her son during a ceremony Thursday and thanked the city government and others who have honored his memory.

“I am deeply grateful that my son’s courage has not been forgotten,” she said.

According to earlier reports and resolutions recognizing Fabian’s heroism, the student rushed to close a classroom door to shield his classmates from the attacker. His action helped protect the students inside the classroom.

Fabian was among three students who died in the school shooting.

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Leyte Council also posthumously honored Fabian through a resolution recognizing his courage and commitment to the Scout ideals of service and sacrifice.

Fabian also received a posthumous 2026 Outstanding Eastern Visayas Award for his heroism and selflessness.

The city ordinance formally recognizes Fabian’s actions and establishes the “Tacloban Young Hero” title as a distinction for young people who demonstrate courage, leadership and service to the community.
