NEW JERSEY — Federal and local authorities announced Saturday that they have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the ransacking of the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba in the District of New Jersey.

Officials said the arrest represents a key step in an ongoing investigation into the incident, which left the office in disarray with visible property damage. Authorities have not released the date or time of the alleged ransacking.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office confirmed law enforcement involvement, and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi stated the suspect is in custody but did not provide identifying details.

Habba posted on social media, “We got him,” after authorities detained the person of interest. Officials have not confirmed whether the suspect faced formal charges at that time.

Investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, federal prosecutors, and local police are reviewing security footage, building access logs, and interviewing staff and potential witnesses. They are collecting physical evidence and assessing the scope of the damage.

Prosecutors are considering possible charges, including burglary, criminal mischief, and unlawful entry of a federal office. No formal charges have been publicly filed, and court records were unavailable Saturday.

Authorities are reviewing security procedures at federal offices in New Jersey and may implement changes if the investigation identifies vulnerabilities. They have not released information on a motive or whether any sensitive files or materials were accessed or removed.

Officials urged anyone with information relevant to the case to contact law enforcement and indicated they will provide updates through official statements and court filings.
