The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas as part of a new enforcement measure targeting compliance with immigration laws.

Officials stated that the visa revocations are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen national security.

The focus is on individuals whose activities may not align with the conditions of their student visas, particularly those suspected of misusing their student status for non-academic purposes.

Universities are actively offering support to affected students, including legal guidance and assistance navigating the immigration process. Some schools are working with immigration attorneys to help students explore appeals or potential options for reinstatement.

Student associations have voiced criticism of the mass revocations, arguing that such broad actions could damage the reputation of the United States as a leading destination for global education. They emphasize the critical role international students play in enriching academic communities and contributing to the economy.

Government officials defended the measure, describing it as a necessary step to protect national interests. While acknowledging the challenges faced by students, they reiterated the need to enforce immigration rules to preserve the integrity of the system.
