LOS ANGELES — Spider-Man has swung past Deadpool in the race for the most-watched movie trailer in history. The teaser for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the first trailer ever to surpass one billion views.

According to Variety, citing data from WaveMetrix, the trailer has now reached over 1.1 billion views. It drew 373 million views in just eight hours after its March 17 release and set a 24-hour record with 718.6 million views.

The previous record was held by the “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024) trailer, which amassed 365 million views in its first 24 hours following its US Super Bowl launch. Spider-Man’s earlier hit, “No Way Home” (2021), had also broken records with 355.5 million views in 24 hours before being surpassed by Deadpool.

The 38th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues Spider-Man’s story four years after “No Way Home.” Peter Parker (Tom Holland) must protect New York City despite the world forgetting him after Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casts a memory-erasing spell. Returning characters include MJ (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon), and Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), while newcomers Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colon-Zayas join the cast.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021), the film opens in Philippine cinemas on July 31.

Earlier in March, Holland and Zendaya made headlines when her stylist Law Roach revealed at the Actor Awards in Los Angeles that the couple is now married.
