Southeast Austin blaze leaves apartment complex with $3M losses

Firefighters from the Austin Fire Department on Monday responded to a large fire at the Sage at Franklin Park apartment complex in Southeast Austin, Texas, which investigators said caused approximately $3 million in damages as they worked to determine how and why the blaze started and who it affected.

Austin Fire Department officials said the fire started in the Sage at Franklin Park complex in Southeast Austin and spread through multiple units before crews brought the blaze under control.

Authorities said firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving emergency calls reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartment buildings.

Investigators from the Austin Fire Department said they opened an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire at the Sage at Franklin Park complex.

The department said it will review witness statements, physical evidence, and any available video footage to determine what started the blaze.

Austin Fire Department officials said they conducted post-fire assessments to estimate property loss and determined that the fire caused about $3 million in damages.

Authorities said they coordinated with property management and relevant city departments to document structural damage and impacts on affected units.

Officials said they will continue to monitor the site and support follow-up safety inspections at the Sage at Franklin Park apartment complex.
