South Pasadena has launched the United States’ first all-electric police fleet, complete with a dedicated charging infrastructure, all manufactured by Tesla. This groundbreaking initiative, unveiled on Monday, is a collaboration between Standard Fleet, a company specializing in electric vehicle management technology, and UP.FIT, an Unplugged Performance company that customizes Tesla vehicles for specialized fleet use.

The partnership aims to revolutionize government electric vehicle (EV) fleet management, particularly for emergency responders and law enforcement. Standard Fleet’s advanced software integrates seamlessly with UP.FIT’s customized Tesla vehicles, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting environmental goals.

David Hodge, Founder and CEO of Standard Fleet, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, stating, “Our partnership with UP.FIT provides police departments with a more efficient, cost-effective fleet management experience. By integrating our software with customized Tesla vehicles, we offer a comprehensive system that enhances operational efficiency and supports environmental objectives.”

James Hedland, Fleet Director at UP.FIT, emphasized the mission to facilitate the adoption of electric fleets globally, especially for first responders. “Standard Fleet software allows operators to manage access, charging, maintenance, and dispatching of their EVs, providing complete control over their operations,” Hedland explained.

The initiative addresses a growing need for environmentally responsible and cost-effective deployment of EV fleets in public service. The key benefits include:

– Improved Operational Efficiency: Standard Fleet’s software optimizes the management of charging, maintenance, and daily operations, reducing time and costs for fleet managers.

– Tailored Vehicle Customizations: UP.FIT modifies Tesla vehicles to meet the specific requirements of police and public safety operations, ensuring reliability and suitability for community service.

– Environmental Impact:

The shift to EVs reduces emissions and air pollution, aligning with local, state, and federal environmental goals.

South Pasadena Police Department Sgt. Tony Abdalla expressed the department’s enthusiasm for the new fleet, saying, “Adopting electric vehicles for police work presents unique challenges and opportunities. With Standard Fleet technology, we have mobile access to all our EVs, improving our operations from dispatch and charging to maintenance and keyless access for officers on duty. This initiative allows us to serve our community with a cleaner, more reliable, and higher performance police fleet at lower costs in the long term.”

The project represents a significant step forward in modernizing public safety fleets while promoting sustainability and operational efficiency.
