South Korea’s Constitutional Court removed President Yoon Suk-yeol from office on Friday, April 3, after upholding the National Assembly’s impeachment over his imposition of martial law.

The court’s unanimous decision concluded months of political unrest.

Yoon declared martial law in December 2024, which led to widespread political crisis.

The crisis overshadowed efforts to manage diplomatic relations with the new United States administration.

This ruling made Yoon the second South Korean president to be ousted by the Constitutional Court.

His impeachment followed charges of violating the constitution and abuse of power.

The presidential office and political parties have not yet announced their next steps.
