SINGAPORE — On April 28, 2026, Singaporean Siow Jia Rui, 50, appeared in a district court after authorities charged him with two counts of attempting to promote enmity between racial groups for allegedly posting content targeting the Jewish community in 2025.
Court documents state that Siow was in Singapore on July 25, 2025, when he allegedly posted a WhatsApp profile status containing a slur against Jews. Authorities allege that two months later, while in China, he posted three disappearing WhatsApp statuses with images and text targeting the same community.
The police said in a statement on April 27, 2026, that officers received a report on Sept. 10, 2025, and arrested Siow on Sept. 13, 2025. A police spokesperson said authorities take a serious view of acts that may harm racial and religious harmony and will take action against offenders.
Under Singapore law, a person convicted of attempting to promote enmity between different racial groups can face up to three years in jail, a fine, or both.
