DENTON COUNTY, Texas – Police have reported that Denton County Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell was injured, and her husband, Fred Mitchell, was killed following an altercation with their grandson. The incident took place in their home located in Lewisville.

Authorities stated that Mitchell Reinacher, the grandson of the couple, has been arrested. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault. The police found both Bobbie and Fred Mitchell with stab wounds after responding to an emergency call on Monday morning. Fred Mitchell succumbed to his injuries, while Bobbie J. Mitchell was hospitalized and remains in stable condition.

Mitchell Reinacher’s motives for the attack are still being investigated by law enforcement. Officials have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Bobbie J. Mitchell, a long-serving political figure in the county, has been a commissioner since the year 2000. She holds the distinction of being the first Black mayor of Lewisville. Her contributions and active engagement in local governance have been acknowledged by many in the community.

Following the arrest, Reinacher, who is in his 20s, was taken into custody and is currently being held. Legal proceedings are expected to begin as the police continue to collect evidence and testimonies from those involved.

Neighbors and community members expressed shock upon learning of the incident. Many described the Mitchell family as well-respected members of the community with deep ties to the area. The news of the attack has been met with considerable sadness and disbelief, given the family’s long-standing service to the community.

As this story unfolds, local authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic incident. They are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

County officials have not yet commented on how this incident might affect Bobbie J. Mitchell’s position on the Denton County Commission. Her colleagues and constituents have extended their support and best wishes for her recovery during this difficult time.

This incident adds to a series of recent violent occurrences in the region, prompting discussions about community safety and the resources available for mental health support and family interventions. Authorities are looking into measures that may help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As residents await more information, the Lewisville police continue to assure the public that they are dedicated to delivering a thorough investigation and ensuring justice for the victim, Fred Mitchell.
