MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis players Alex Eala and Niño Alcantara advanced to the mixed doubles semifinals of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Monday, securing at least a bronze medal for the Philippines after they defeated Singapore’s Daniel Abadia and Wei Choo, 6-4, at the Tennis Development Center in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Eala and Alcantara broke Abadia and Choo’s serve in the opening stages of the match and maintained their lead through consistent baseline play and coordinated net attacks.
The Filipino pair held serve under pressure in the closing games and closed out the first set, 6-4, to complete the win.
Tournament officials confirmed that all semifinalists in the mixed doubles event will receive at least a bronze medal based on SEA Games tennis awarding rules.
Philippine team coaches and support staff monitored the match courtside and recorded performance data for post-match review.
Team Philippines officials coordinated logistics for Eala and Alcantara’s preparation for the semifinal round, including practice court bookings and recovery sessions.
