MANILA, Philippines — A bill proposing the creation of a Scam Prevention Center has been introduced in the Senate to address the growing incidence of online fraud.
Senate officials announced the measure on Tuesday, citing the need for a centralized agency focused on scam prevention, victim support, and public education.
The proposed center would coordinate with law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, and technology companies to detect, report, and prosecute online scams. It would also lead to nationwide information campaigns to raise awareness and promote preventive practices.
Lawmakers emphasized that a unified approach is necessary to combat increasingly sophisticated cybercriminal activities. The center would serve both individuals and businesses by providing resources and assistance in avoiding fraudulent schemes.
Senate committees are scheduled to review the bill in upcoming sessions. If approved, it will advance to a full Senate vote.
Public consultation on the proposal is encouraged as part of the legislative process.
