House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has urged Vice President Sara Duterte to directly address accusations of improperly using P612.5 million in confidential funds allocated to the OVP and DepEd during her tenure as Education Secretary.

The allegations emerged recently, prompting scrutiny over the management of the sizable funds during Duterte’s leadership. The Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education have been under pressure to clarify the situation. According to reports, these funds were intended for confidential purposes, often involving sensitive information related to national security or similar matters. However, concerns have been raised about the transparency and accountability in managing such significant resources.

Romualdez expressed concerns over what he described as “diversionary accusations” made by Duterte. These accusations allegedly involve claims against Romualdez and members of the First Family, including a purported assassination plot. He emphasized that addressing the primary issue of fund misuse should be the priority, urging Duterte to provide clarity on the matter.

Vice President Duterte has not yet publicly responded to Romualdez’s challenge. The allegations have caught significant media attention, making them a topic of public interest. Critics and supporters alike are closely watching the developments, awaiting further statements from both parties involved.

The controversy adds to the ongoing discussions about the management of public funds and the importance of accountability among high-ranking officials. Questions have arisen around the processes and checks in place to ensure proper allocation and use of such substantial amounts.

The P612.5 million in question was reportedly intended for confidential activities under both the OVP and DepEd. These activities are typically not disclosed to the public due to their sensitive nature. However, the public and political figures have been vocal in demanding transparency on how these funds were utilized during Duterte’s time in office.

The issue has highlighted the broader concerns about the use of confidential funds in government. These funds are often subject to less oversight than other types of budget allocations, leading to calls for more rigorous governance and transparency. Lawmakers and advocates have been urging reforms that could increase accountability regarding such funds.
