THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Vice President Sara Duterte said Wednesday that she has no plans to watch, read or review a summary of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), calling it a “waste of time.”

Duterte made the remarks during a chance interview in The Hague, where she is on an overseas trip scheduled to end on July 31.

“I am not watching the SONA like last year, and I have no plans to read its contents or even a summary because I truly believe it is a waste of time for the Filipino people,” Duterte said in Filipino.

She also downplayed one of the President’s key announcements during the address, particularly his statement that the Office of the Ombudsman would soon file cases against his cousin, former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Asked about Marcos’ remarks, Duterte said the public should not expect any immediate results.

“Didn’t he also say last year that before December someone would be imprisoned? Has anyone been imprisoned? No,” Duterte said.

“So don’t expect the former Speaker or members of the House of Representatives to go to jail,” she added.
