“Garage sale queen” turns 100 and gets San Antonio city crown

SAN ANTONIO, Texas– Dolly “Nanny” Walwer celebrated her 100th birthday on July 2, 2025, receiving a formal proclamation from the City of San Antonio in recognition of her long-standing role in the community.

Known as the “Garage Sale Queen,” Walwer has organized garage sales in East San Antonio for over 60 years. These events have attracted locals and visitors, offering second-hand items and fostering community connections.

The City of San Antonio held a special ceremony honoring Walwer’s contributions to local culture and neighborhood spirit. Officials highlighted her dedication to bringing people together through her garage sales, which have become a cultural fixture in the area.

Walwer’s garage sales provided affordable goods while serving as social gatherings that strengthened community bonds. Residents affectionately call her “Nanny,” reflecting the personal relationships she has built over the decades.
